review 1: I had some trouble connecting to these characters. I found Jasper to be bland and timid, and Lewis to be immature (even aside from living with his parents). The sex scenes didn't happen until late in the book, though they were steamy, and seemed appropriately timed for a relationship that took a long time to develop. I was uncomfortable with the challenges to client/patient relationship. It was difficult to see books as a addictive, haunting problem when holding a book in my hands. I think those might be personal difficulties unrelated to the author's style -- having both an affection for overflowing bookshelves and a history that involves therapists. I think the most interesting characters were supportive. Lewis's family was colorful and fantastic, the coffee shop guy de... moreserves his own book. I wanted to take Mas home and snuggle him, he deserves a happy ending. Overall, the book was a good read. I think the exploration of the psychology of hoarding was honest and balanced.
review 2: I'm glad that I collected only electronic texts in the last decade. Never could throw away a book.'His insides had transformed into seasick butterflies, and if he took a step, he just knew he’d probably spew.''“I’ve never seen so many different-coloured moulds before.” He might have been familiar with the black mildew spots, but here were patches of mottled yellow, orange, blue, green and even some white fluffy stuff that looked like it should be growing on leftovers in the fridge. Not that he let the contents of his fridge get into that state. Well, not all that often, anyway. “It’s kind of beautiful, in a strange way.”''He was too much of a perfectionist, that was his problem. That and never being able to make a simple decision without seeing every single side of the problem first. Lewis had told him those things could be strengths too, but it was hard to see how when he still had a living room half full of boxes and two whole walls covered in empty shelves.' less
