review 1: A solid 4.5 Oh man...this series. I stinking love it! I was very disappointed to learn that one of the Benedict boys was not at the center of this storyline, but the author did a fantastic job weaving them in, giving us just enough of them. I cannot wait to hear about the remaining boys and then I hope they adopt a few more brothers to keep the story going. It does lose a .5 star for me because it tends to get a bit "huh?" when everyone uses their powers all at once and it's very hard to follow. Also, because the protagonists are not very strong women and are constantly self-deprecating, but I love the way Stirling loves too much to give it anything lower than 4.5
review 2: 3.5 stars. I really liked Misty and most of her internal musings. And I especially loved... more her animal metaphors. I did get a bit sick of how she constantly referred to herself as a screw-up and how her family seemed to view her this way as she seemed pretty awesome to me. Another thing I like is the handling of the soul finder concept. Although predisposed to love one another it isn't a terrible case insta-love. Some people choose not to pursue, some don't work out and all need to spend some time together to find out about their other half. What I wasn't crazy about was Alex. He is kind of dick to Misty on more than one occasion - being embarrassed by her, not trying to work out how their gifts will work together, ignoring her and her stated fear of heights on a date. I don't fault him for wanting to spend time with his newly discovered uncle but he totally seems to take Misty for granted. less
