review 1: Personally, I hate reading books about people in France (or where ever) and have them throw in French words that supposedly, we are to know what they mean. And, we can figure the jist of it out, but it annoys me. Especially cause all the French names of the Lords and Ladies were hard to pronounce anyways. I didn't need any other French words. This annoyance of mine is probably at least part of the reason it took me awhile to get into this book. There was a lot of things that happened in the story (over 400 pages) but it took awhile to get going. The first half of the book I could take it or leave it. The 2nd half I was interested to see what happened. A positive was that it was a clean romance.
review 2: Medieval France is certainly not amongst my usual fav
... moreorite settings, but I enjoyed this book, in part because it forced me to think so I would not get get confused by the complex lineages, hierarchical relationships between dukes, lords, kings, knights etc., traditions of inheritance, layout of castles, etc. Besides, who wouldn't love Triston as a main character? This was a relatively long book, taking the better part of a week on-and-off to read. This was not an I-couldn't-put-it-down and I enjoyed that about it in this particular instance. less

It was too slow moving for my taste. I like things to move along a little faster than this book did.

I got tired of the girl putting herself in scary situations and not believing the right people.
Kristine
I really enjoyed this book.
