review 1: Joyce Meyer's Do Yourself a Favor ... Forgive helped me understand my anger and how I had allowed it to control me, instead of the other way around. First she shows how to recognize anger in small and large hurts, in indignation over life's unfairness and injustice, in unmet needs, and so forth. She discusses roots of anger, how we mask it, how we deal with it. And she addresses the big biblical questions we often ask, like: Why didn't God prevent this trial? Let's face it; in this world, Hurts Happen. Meyer gives example after example of how forgiveness is the only way to peace. This book is organized thoughtfully and clearly, with points supported by real-life stories and scripture.
review 2: Again, I am let down by Joyce Meyer. I believe very strongly that ... moreforgiveness is important because the only person suffering is the person who is unable to forgive/let go. I agree with Joyce that anger is the source. So my first step was to determine exactly what it was I was angry about. Next, of course, is to resolve the anger. I was hoping this book would help me with actual steps to work through and at first that is what I found. First, she says, is the DESIRE to forgive. Good. Second step is to DECIDE to forgive. Good, again. Next, she says to DEPEND and that's where she lost me. Depend on the holy spirit to help you. Well, that works for someone who believes in the holy spirit the same way she does but what if I have a different belief? Then her advice doesn't work. And I believe truth is universal, change the variables and the truth is still the truth. So her solution can only work for those who have the same religious belief system as she does and yet anger and the need to forgive are universal. I would like to see her give all of us a solution that can be applied no matter what ones belief system is. less
