review 1: I was in the mood for something light and easy. F*ck that! said this book, and this was how I got instead something infinitely better, the non-edulcorated story of Aaron, an 18 years old whose "normal" life ended when he was attacked, raped and brutalized in every possible way by unknown men who then left him for dead on the pavement of a garage. The book starts two years after the attack; Aaron is still suffering of severe PTSD, he can't leave the security of his house or even be touched by someone without having a panick attack and be fed with drugs. One day, after hearing his parents considering the idea of institutionalize him, he decides to show them that he is capable of some sort of progress, and enrolls in college. Here he meets Spencer, whose own disability lets h... moreim understood Aaron in a way noone ever could, and they start a friendship that leads Aaron to start the journey of self-ricovery.I really liked this book, I found it powerful and genuine, especially that Aaron wasn't magically cured at the end. I just wished I could've seen how Aaron and Spencer were faring a little further down the road, and I was feeling a little disappointed at the abrupt end... until I saw that there's a sequel, wohohooo! TBR +1.
review 2: How do I get one more star? I've owned this since it's release but I waited for the right time to read it. Aaron has been brutalized and Spencer has had hurtles too. Together they find a way to see or at least believe there is a place tor them in the world that is not full of pain. All Their parents were interesting and not flat, I wanted to know what made them tick, even the brothers's stories would have been intriguing. There has to be more to this story. It's not a cliffhanger by no means but there is more to say about these young men. less
