review 1: J.P. Barnaby can write, that is no quesiton and this short story is no exception.Still it was just a 3 star for me because while we get to know Josh quite well, Wade isn't really fleshed out. Additionally I wasn't thrilled with the sex scene where Josh imagined being with his dream master and acted this scene. It just felt wrong. The reader gets the information that Josh and Wade have mailed to each other but we don't get the feeling that they know each other. Additionally Josh has a job, he is a writer. Why did Wade think he needs to give him work? Also, it ended to abruptly.
review 2: I really, really, really would have liked this to be longer. Okay, I'm greedy, I'll admit it. I wanted more in the middle and much, much more before I got to "the end". Grumblin... moreg aside, I genuinely enjoyed this (and I did know going in that it was short, so I expected that I would end up...I can't really say unsatisfied, but it's kind of like when there's only one slice of cake left and it's not really a slice, it's just a half a slice and it's really good and you just wish there was more!) This is why I don't usually read novellas; I'm pretty much always wanting more. (I mentioned I was greedy, right?)This was the first book of J.P.'s that I picked up but it most definitely will not be my last. The writing was smooth and the story flowed along with nothing to jar me out of it. Wade and Josh (and for that matter the small cast of secondary characters) are all so genuine they truly felt like real people. Dialogue was spot on. And yes, the sex is definitely hot and sweet and tender and wonderful--but people who know me know that what really gets me are fleshed out characters who talk like real people. less
