review 1: Liked this very much - police procedural set near Larvik in Norway, lovely glimpses of fjord setting. A number of left feet turn up inside shoes, washed ashore. It becomes apparent that they are from a group of people who all disappeared at around the same time, and slowly connections are made between them. Line, the daughter of the detective on the case, is at the same time working on a feature concerning recently released prisoners in the area. Everything gradually comes together and although there were many clues it was difficult to predict the exact complexity of the relationships or explain the sequence of events right up to the end (and one mystery remains unsolved). Nice to see an independent Scottish publisher producing this. This is the 6th in a series but the 1st... more translated into English, so I suppose I shall either have to skip the first 5 or brush up my Norwegian to catch up. Recommended!
review 2: Frustratingly this is the 6th book in the series but the first to be translated into English. Inspector William Wisting has 4 different left feet washed up on shore and has to work out who they belong to and why these people have been killed. Meanwhile, his daughter Line is researching a paper about the effect that jail has on murderers. There is clearly some back story between Wisting and Line that has happened in the first 5 books. I felt this story started really well, then struggled a little bit and then picked up again towards the end. I really hope that the earlier stories get translated as it seems like another good Scandinavian series. less
