review 1: I absolutely loved The Sleepy Little Alphabet. The illustrations are wonderful. They put little alphabet surprises in the pictures. Like F and G. You can see on the wall a few pictures with F and G, as well as grown up G holding a book that says "Flowers in the Garden". G also has a box full of "green things" including a frog. H,I and J are all bouncing on the bed, and several things can be seen on the shelf. A Helicopter, book about Ice Cream and a Jack in the box. Another thing I rather enjoyed about the book is the fact that it rhymed, and it rhymed well. The rhymes weren't far fetched,or unreasonably hard to understand. My favorite page in the whole book is at the end, where all the letters are in their beds, and each of them are holding some type of object that correl... moreates to their letter. M has a monkey, O an octopus. I will definitely be using this book in my field placement with a child who has difficulty understanding the alphabet.
review 2: The Sleepy Little Alphabet is a sweet bedtime story going through all the letters, rhyming about what ever letter is doing before bed or to get ready for bed. The big, parent, letters are running around to get t their children home and ready for bed. Every letter has its own “personality” and doing its own activity. Each letter is doing something goofy and silly, not wanting to go to bed. The letters act like little kids do when their parents are trying to get them ready to slow down for the night and lay down. It's funny and the illustrations add to the fun approach the writing brings. The drawings are funny and wacky that go over the top but it fits with how the letters are acting throughout the book. There are quiet letters, loud and some down right rambunctious. This is a fun way to have children learn the letters of the alphabet and make it fun for them instead of constantly going over and over each letter. Teacher's can use this book to make up their own activity to have their children make up their own story for each letter. The end shows all the little letters sleeping away, knowing the next morning they will get to have more fun and be the silly little letters they are. I would read this to my children at bedtime and to help teach them their letters. It's not a chore in a child's eyes. It's a fun and silly way for kids to have fun learning words and letters. less
