review 1: In some ways, it's difficult to separate my appreciation of this book from its status as "an event." By the latter, I mean the big deal this is that Feiffer has published another graphic novel. But this narrative stands strong regardless of the hype surrounding it. This is a story with a lot of moving parts, and Feiffer does a great job of making sure all of the parts are well-oiled and moving at top efficiency. Dark, pensive, yet humorous at the same time -- like his strips -- this is a book that begs for multiple readings.
review 2: I really enjoy Feiffer's artwork, but in this case I had a bit of a hard time figuring out the plot. His loose style, and the fact that the people all look very similar, made it difficult for me to keep track of who was actually ... morewho. However, the plot is pretty good - very noir - and, again, I really like his artwork. Definitely an adult book and one that people who enjoy noir movies would enjoy. less
