review 1: Julia Donaldson - thank you! It's very nice to see a book about a princess that isn't all pink and fluffy! Here, the princess wants to be a doctor, she's brave and decisive, and nurses Zog back to health after he fails in his dragon lessons.Burned wings, hoarse throats, and bashed noses, this is a funny book, with absolutely brilliant illustrations from Axel Scheffler. This is a book I'd quite happily read a thousand times.
review 2: A Gold Star for Zog – what a great book for a class to discuss character development, trying your best but not succeeding, making friends, determination, and being eager. Zog is a dragon who goes to school but can’t quite learn how to fly, roar, and breathe fire. He meets a mysterious girl who patches him up after his many bum
... moreps and bruises so he can go back to school and try to earn that elusive gold star. Kids will identify with Zog and cheer him on with every attempt he makes to learn a new dragon skill. All grades will find this book entertaining. less

Cute, but a little clunky with all the repeated rhymes, and a little heavy-handed in the message.

How can young dragons train for good? This story adds humor to growing up dragon.
