review 1: A satisfying "beach read" because the novel takes place during World War II. Quickly, the plot involves a young English woman who, while singing for soldiers recovering from burns, meeting a dashing young pilot. Both end up in Egypt in the days leading up to the Allied offensive again Rommel. While I agree with some of the deficiencies listed by reviewers, I enjoyed not delving too deeply into details and critiques.
review 2: I will confess that iwas completely biased even before I started reading this book. Julia Gregson's East of the Sun is in my ALL TIME top 10. Jasmine Nights did not disappoint. I will forever carry with me the image of Dom and Saba, speeding through the blue night of the desert, with nothing but the starry skies to guide them. I loved
... moremy journeys to work. The city disappeared as I followed the love story of Saba, a singer in the entertainment forces and Dom, a pilot, during the Second World War in North Africa. War starts out as an exotic adventure for Saba, with unprecedented freedom and excitement, but soon enough war and the lives it shatters becomes all too real.Theres romance, glamorour, show business, espionage and the breathtaking backdrop of Egypt and Turkey...I was completely lost in the book and was sad that it ended. The book ends at the crossroads of new beginnings for our lovers... I am not convinced however that it will be smooth sailing for these two. I hope we will get a sequel! less
