review 1: Despite the occasional confusion over the way some things are worded, this story is wonderfully written as Gregson switches between her three leading ladies giving the story a wider range of view points as well as making it more interesing as you can see into the different minds of each unique character. I enjoyed the story line and the gradual unfolding of the mystery of Viva and her past, however it was rather rushed towards the end of the book as the story came to an end and I think that Gregson rather messily tied up the loose narrative threads of the particular characters even though they were satisfiying endings for me as a reader, with the story being quite slow in other places. Overall I think it was a fantastic book with alot to offer to particularly those who lik... moree a slightly femminist, independent main character.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book; characters were vivid and atmosphere lively. My only complaint is that there was a lot of action left off-screen. In an example that shouldn't be too much of a spoiler, a character is actually physically kidnapped and passes out and then in the next scene it's Christmas, she's fine, and you find out what happened to her. Also, the "secret" at the heart of the novel is painfully obvious to everyone except the unreliable narrator. However, its pleasures were more than enough to outset its flaws. less

A book full of tedious characters, and anachronistic dialogue.
