review 1: "If You Want to See a Whale" is a Cybil award winning book by Julie Fogliano that tells the story of a boy who begins whale watching. The boy sits in front of his window and patiently waits to see a whale. He then realizes that he needs to avoid certain distractions, such as the beautiful pink roses or the pelicans in the sky, if he's ever going to see the whale before it disappears again. I believe young readers who enjoy using their imagination would really like this book. I believe the book is best suited for students in preschool to second grade.
review 2: If You Want to See a Whale is a children’s book written by Julie Fogliano basically about what you will need in order to see a whale. The illustrations are simple yet very bold putting focus on the blue
... more whale and the little boy staring outside the window. There are very few words in the book and the painting and watercolor have enough definition of what is happening in the story. The story has an underlying message about patience and I think this is important for younger children to retain. The pictures will keep the reader engaged as they are bright and large to catch attention. I think the appropriate age group for this book would be ages 4-8 because it is simple enough for younger children to understand. I enjoyed this book and I think my students would too! less
