review 1: Once Again, Grace has proven to be a worthy adversary in most creative ways in Book 5 of the Manor House Mystery series.Kudo's Julie Hyzy for keeping me engaged in her adventures. More than a whodunnit, this one is. Some characters have gotten their marching orders, some hanging in there in terms of Grace's lingering personal relationships are just fine with me. I always get a kick out of Frances, Our Lady of Nosiness and the unending question of exactly what is the deal with her relationship with Bennett that keeps her around. I had my red flag as to the culprit this time around and I was spot on, but it did not remove any enjoyment from going along till the very end of the story..in fact, if nothing else I simply wanted to appreciate all the creativity that went into the... more development of unearthing the clues, the architecture and the always needy "lady" Hillary who, through the kindness of Bennett is acquiring some some nice social skills and the basics of the rewards of healthy interpersonal relationships. I am not one to banter on about this is how it starts and factoids..I simply appreciate and report here the points of why I stick with it, how much I have come to love and expand my relationship with this series as well as the White House Chef series to which I must, simply must redirect myself and catch up with as well. This is a wonderful series and I encourage as always any person who delights with the "cozy" genre..to get thee to the beginning of the Manor House and enjoy the adventures of Grace and the crew..
review 2: When a cardiac surgeon suddenly dies at a benefit at Marshfield Manor, Grace has one more thing to worry about. There's also the state of her love life, as she has two men who are interested in her, the continuing renovations to her house, and the problems that come with being curator and manager of a large historic site. I usually like the first few of a new Hyzy series, and then get bothered by the carryover complexities--in this case, mostly Grace's family ramifications. Grace discovers two secret passages (in different buildings) in this one. If you don't find that disquieting, go ahead--it's a pleasant enough read. less
