review 1: This beautiful book reminded me of People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks, only with a violin and with slightly less polished writing and story telling. I have to think that author has played violin before. Had I not played violin (or another instrument) once upon a time, I may not have connected to the story as much. Initially, I wished that the author had delved further into the history of the violin, but the eventual intersection of the stories proved to be a good balance.

This is not usually my style but it did keep me interested. All in all a good historical novel.

Absolutely loved this book. A fascinating read moving from WW II to present day.....
