review 1: This is the third and final book in Grey's telling of Marie Antoinette's life. It begins with the te royal family being forced from Versailles and ending with her death. Once again she stays as factually true as possible and her explanation of why she made the choice she did in the back of the book is once again fascinating. One of her most interesting choices was to introduce another historical character to the story to provide a point of view to events Marie Antoinette could not have witnessed herself but where important to the overall story. I was a little confused by this in the first chapter but after that I found it a very useful and interesting plot device.
review 2: The third & final book in the Marie Antoinette trilogy by Juliet Grey. This book depicte
... mored the demise of Marie Antoinette and the annihilation of the French monarchy as they knew it. I was particularly touched by the character development of Antoinette; the author allowed us to feel her kind and gentle nature in spite of being villainized by France's revolution. Such a contradiction in terms! The author indicates that she stayed as true to history as possible. This is poignant in that we are touched by Marie Antoinette's painful & inevitable end when she is forced to leave her children behind. less

Another really good read - historical research is enormous and acknowledged at the end of the book.
