review 1: Reading the first few pages of this book, I almost put it down because I understand the premise: Most men don't date their wives anymore since they go married and have the stress of daily living. But the more I read, the more I liked what Buzzard had to say. He roots what he says in the gospel, not in religion, and in the grace of Jesus to make us better men, for he is the only one who is perfect. There was a lot of great tips here, and many insights to think about and implement in my marriage. I especially liked the plans, the yearly plan and weekly plan, for how to spend time with my wife and make time with her a much higher priority in all that we do. It does read really quick and easy at times, not lending itself to deep thought. But I think it does the job ... morewell.
review 2: I have read plenty of books on marriage, sex, and being a good husband that have changed my understanding, but none have been incredibly practical. Date Your Wife is just that; a short practical book that focus' briefly on the why in order to answer what really is the problem in marriages while providing plenty of practicals.Justin spends a great deal of time explaining that for marriage to work it must be centered on men leading well, the Gospel, and tons and tons of grace. This was not just explained cosmically, rather Justin took amble opportunity to explain how it works out in the day to day life. Personal stories as well filled the pages which left readers with a sense of feeling connected to the author and the truths written in these pages. My favorite part by far would have to be the practicalness of the book. With a whole chapter devoted to date ideas and two chapters voted to making a yearly plan for dating your wife this book leaves one with no excuses around the "how" of dating. Also, this book is approachable for non-believers, which is a great tool given the many non-believers we all know who struggle to date each other. Great read that is centered on Christ and challenging men! less
