review 1: This is a beautifully written book with a tragic yet beautiful story and beautiful characters. I think this has an interesting plot and I admit this pulls you in. It is not by any means an entertaining nor an exciting one since I frowned a lot of times on stuff such as adultery and abuse. Nevertheless, this book has a great story and I adore how it was written--alternative POV between two main characters and different times (then and now). It is also not that depressing.
review 2: DOUBLE REVIEW:Shannon's Review: 5 StarsWe start with Water's present first person view and alternate with Jesse's past first person view. So you know somewhere in the intricately woven web they are connected. But how? We know the beginning and we think we know the end but what about
... more all that in between? Let's find out!Present - JaneWhen "Jane" awakens in a hospital she has no clue who she is, where she's at, nor what happened to her to put her there. Found brutally beaten, raped, and left for dead there is only one thing to identify her - the Water symbol tattoo on her side.Seeing that after months in the hospital she still doesn't know anymore than she did, the sheriff and his wife, Dr. Welles talk their elderly and eccentric neighbor, Ginny, into letting Jane stay with her. Ginny is a lot smarter than she ever lets on. She offers almost a comedic relief at certain points and is really refreshing.Jane can't get her license or a job until she changes her name. She can't go by Jane Doe forever. So, only with inspiration of her tattoo to go by she changes her name to Water.Between Ginny, the Welles, their daughter Amber and their son Jesse, they help take care of Water, get her settled in, and help restart her life. She senses something familiar about Jesse but doesn't voice it. She feels strangely safe with him but doesn't know why. Maybe he reminds her of someone that was close to her in her old life.Past - JesseJesse is the sheriff and doctors son. He's always been in trouble and on the wrong side of the law. Being the sheriffs son isn't an easy thing. He loves muscle cars and works hard in order to save and get one. He's trying to change his life and stay out of trouble. Or he was, rather.Jesse stops to help a stranded motorist on the side of the road. She asks him an in depth question, kisses him, and then leaves. A few weeks later he sees her at a club. With her Russian Mob husband. He learns her name is Alex, she's mistreated, abused, and cheated on. Made to look like a trophy wife. You can feel the Sparks between Alex and Jesse and although it's forbidden you can sense Jesse's feelings growing stronger and stronger with every encounter. This can't lead to anything good, can it.The story telling and the timing of this book are so well done. The dancing between present and past is done so smoothly. I couldn't tear myself away from it. I had to know what happened. I needed to see for myself that Water was going to be okay. Was she? I don't know how anyone who experienced what she experienced can ever be okay. This is a story of second chances. Picking yourself up from the pits of hell and making a brand new start. Not everyone gets that chance but when you do, you should take full advantage and live and love to the fullest extent.Favorite Quotes:"He said the truth is like water: it doesn't matter how hard you try to bury it; it'll always find some way back to the surface. It's resilient.""I am lost and yet somehow found.I am afraid and yet somehow comforted.I am drifting and yet somehow....home.""And tomorrow is Wednesday, and the next is Thursday, and one day you'll learn that none of the names really matter. What matters is that you make the most of every day while you still can."Sarah's Review: 5 StarsI love everything that K.A. Tucker writes. Burying Water is very different than what she normally writes. This book is dark, suspenseful and absolutely heart wrenching. Imagine waking up in a hospital bed and having no idea who you are or how you ended up in the there. How do you even begin to try and understand what has happened with your life. After a horrible beating sends "Water" to the hospital with amnesia she wakes up having no idea who she is or how she ended up in the hospital. As time goes on she begins to build a trusting relationship with her doctor. When Water is finally able to be discharged she has no where to go so her doctor suggests that she go and live with her neighbor. Water is slightly hesitant but doesn't have many other options. Ginny the crabby old neighbor and Water get along pretty well. You will understand why when you read the story. Will Water ever be able to figure out where she is from or what happened to her?Jesse is the son of Water's doctor and is known as the town bad boy. Water feels very connected to Jesse but doesn't understand why. Everyone that Water has gotten close to has warned her to stay away from Jesse. He is tough on the outside but very soft and caring on the inside. Will Jesse be able to help Water figure out her past and will Water ever understand why she feels such a deep connection to Jesse?I loved that the story is told in dual POV. Jesse's chapters focus on the past and Water's focus on the present. This story pulled every emotion out of me. I love how K.A. can weave such an amazing story that you feel like you are experiencing all the emotions right along with the characters. I laughed with them, got upset with them and cried for Water and what she went through. The secondary characters play such an important part in this emotionally gut-wrenching story. This is a definite must read book by K.A. and I can't wait to read the next one. less
