review 1: Kelly is about to turn 40 as she sends her sons to camp for the summer. Yikes, what's a mother to do without her kids for 7 or 8 weeks? Kelly is facing a mid-life crisis in the wealthy suburb of Grandville. The theme is a woman's self discovery and finding what she really wants out of life. Into this we add her taking care of her friend's anorexic daughter, friends having affairs, another mother who does her best to make Kelly feel inferior, and a husband who couldn't be more perfect. Having a life of wealth where you can choose what you want to be is such a strain. The story had a plot that was okay but threw in some pretty unrealistic happenings in the interpersonal relationships of the characters. I had really looked forward to reading the book and it was a year b... moreefore I could request it via interlibrary loan due to the fact that my branch didn't have a copy. Although the story was enjoyable enough I was disappointed that it wasn't a little more realistic.
review 2: If you can get through the first part of the book, dealing with all the self-absorbed characters, it ends up being a fairly good read. Written in first person, Kelly Johnson is facing a mid-life decision of what to do with the rest of her life. Her boundless energy throughout the book has a somewhat dizzying effect on the reader so that by the end, I just wanted the gal to just go lie down and rest. less
