review 1: Oh, this was so sweet! I loved it: the writing, the characters, the romance. There's no complicated plot twists here, no angst, just two people meeting and connecting and building a life together. It's quite a simple story but it's so warm and so lovely done that I just didn't want to put it down.I liked Ryan's easy manner and humor and John's solidness. I had a little trouble getting behind the idea of how simple it was for two grown men to accept their new-found bi/homosexuality after believing themselves to be straight all their lives but that's the trouble I always have with the GFY trope so it's in no way the book's flaw, just something to take into account. The part with the fire had me gripping the edge of my chair despite the fact I knew from the reviews that everyt... morehing ends well. I also loved how Ryan handled the situation with Mark finding out about John and him and with Cynthia's visit. I guess I might've just said I loved Ryan but it would be unfair to John since I loved them both. =) If you're looking for something to read that'd make you feel good, this book is really a great choice.
review 2: I've read the book twice now...I loved the story. Having had a rebuilding year of my own, I related with the main characters of Ryan Ward and John Barrett. Sadly, I did not meet the love of my life but this tale does give one hope. Not one who likes stories about "straight" dudes suddenly realizing there gay today...this is not one of those stories. The buildup to the relationship is plausible and I can see it happening. The back stories add so much to the story...although I seriously wanted to smack the fool out of the ex-wife's current husband (can't think of his name and I don't think I am spoiling anything by saying that because I think you will feel the same way once you meet him...just saying). I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will probably read again...highly recommend! less
