review 1: I can't say enough good things about this series. Mori's art is absolutely lush and breathtaking; it is a visual feast. This is the series that made me take up needlecrafting (due to a chapter later on in the series). Amir is an amazing woman, and her new family and new life is fascinating. Mori's depiction of life in Central Asia at the turn of the century is moving and beautiful, and makes me want to learn more about the people and customs of that time and place. I recommend this to everyone who enjoys learning about history and culture, and enjoys meticulous, detailed, beautiful art.
review 2: A young woman from a semi-nomadic tribe is betrothed to a boy in a nearby town. She arrives to discover that he is eight years her junior.Simply stunning. Beautifully
... moreillustrated, and so detailed that you feel you can practically touch the embroidery or relief carvings. The exoticness of the Silk Road era is rooted in fully realized characters and revealing vignettes of everyday life. Watching the new bride settle into the existing family is fascinating and joyous. less
