review 1: Those of you who haven’t read Midnight’s Daughter ought to go back and read that before reading Death’s Mistress since this installment immediately follows right where the previous one left off. If you were expecting Dorina to be the same kick ass, no-nonsense dhampir we’ve all come to know and love, you’re going to be rather disappointed. In this part, Dory’s strength has weakened tremendously and her powers seem to be nonexistent. In regards to her reactions of the situations she lands herself in, it seems she’s either caught off guard too easily or she starts cowering in fear and terror. What happened to you Dory? Even though the book centers around Dory, there were moments where the story would have continued just fine without her. She seemed to be dragg... moreed into every situation by being pushed or following other people’s problems. She seemed to never have an agenda of her own, just so happened to come across dealing with other people’s problems. Although she was a lot reckless than in the previous book, I was wondering why Dory was a central character to this story in the first place. I really did enjoy this book. I found it to be full of action, suspense and danger. The chemistry Dory shares with the other characters was impeccable and imaginative. A read so intense and interesting, you’ll never want to put it down.
review 2: A second volume which is simply magical !!Dorina takes us once again at the heart of the intrigues of the Senate and the fae. A very powerful rune was stolen, putting the lives of Claire and her son in danger and forcing Dory to get involved. While the bodies are piling up, as old enemies return (including the freaky fae we had crossed in the book one) and tensions get worse between different factions, Dory will have to do everything possible to survive her enemies (even the most unexpected ones) but also the men in her life (Mircea and Louis-César included)I love Dory who is a mixture of strength and weakness which makes her irresistible. She is badass with a big mouth and a knack for trouble but she has also always been rejected and she transpires mistrust, especially towards those who seem to love her.I had some doubts about Louis-César in the first book but after this one, I totally fell in love: he is beautiful, he has humor and he has a kind of sense of honor which is too cute >< I hope it will work with Dory =)Well okay, there are some passages a little too long but the characters are endearing (I just loved Ray and his head) and we are quickly carried away by the plot which is just awesome (not a single time did I guessed who was the killer !!)We learn a lot more about the past of Dory, of Mircea and of Louis-César and how different Senates work.Mention for the international championship of ley-line racing that I had loved in the series of Cassandra Palmer. Here we have a larger overview and it seems pretty cool !!To conclude, a totally must read book !! less
