review 1: I will be honest and admit the only reason I read this one was because people mentioned it had Romanian in it. I am Romanian and I usually avoid reading books located nearby because people make a mess out of our history and language.So this book was a very pleasant surprise - not only the foreign languages used are correct, the historical part is actually accurate, so kudos, Ms. Chance!The story follows the Basarab family, Mircea, Vlad and Radu, after they became vampires. The main character is Dorina Basarab, Mircea's daughter by a human woman, which makes her a dhampir.I liked most of the background story, even if it had a little bit too much fighting at a point. And it got confusing after the Fae got involved (I was never a fan of the Faeries, their politics are far too... more complicated).Still, it was pretty good and I am curious about the next book, even if the love interest is a little whiny for my taste.
review 2: I loved this book, for the first in a series it hit the ground running in terms of action dropping you right into the middle of the plot. Even if this was somewhat confusing afterwards when Claire magically reappears and everything is explained in a gabbled conversation of peoples and places you probably won't know if you haven't read the Cassie Palmer books. Comparisons to Laurell K Hamilton are well deserved with Dorina being the type of supernatural kick-ass heroine that fits right in the genre. The use of actually historical actors is skillful and especially the choice to use all 3 of the Draculesti siblings instead of simply fixing on the most famous one.All in all a sexy, action filled romp with colorful characters and a non-stop narrative.
