review 1: This book is in the "romantic suspense" genre, and although I thought the romance stuff was just too obvious and predictable, the suspense who-done-it was top notch. Kept me guessing until the very end. This is about an Amish community in Ohio, and gave what seemed like a very good insight into the Amish religion, culture and beliefs. I was particularly taken with the Amish tolerance of rebellious teenage years called "Running Around Time", a very practical response to a prickly problem. The end of the book rankled me a bit because I think Harper made the heroine's decision not as well though out as it should have been.
review 2: An interesting story form a couple of angles for me. Our Heroine Sarah Kauffman is an Amish artist (now there's an oxymoron!) Being a
... moren artist myself I could sympathise with her need to create to paint and sketch. As the story developes a series of barn fires make for a suspenseful read. Nate MacKenzie, an arson investigator, an Englisher (an outsider)comes to investigate and trys to seperate the Barns, from Sarah's artwork painted on them. Having grown up Bretheren (think Mennonite in regular clothes) I can sympathise with the struggles they both go through, with faith and attraction. I wish the ending didn't have to be an either or proposition, but that's all I will say so as to not spoil the ending. All in all a good read! less
