A Gray Whale Inn Mystery
review 1: Reminiscent of Agatha Christie, with a likable amateur sleuth and a cast of characters in a (somewhat) isolated location - an island off the Maine coast. There are plenty of people with motives for killing the attractive, but unsavory, victim. Lot's of real and imagined love triangles. The most interesting aspect, and what saved the book from mediocrity, was a subplot of a newly discovered body in a secret room in a lighthouse under renovation. Our sleuth, with help from the local historian and a mainland research librarian pieces together the story of that long-past murder much more effectively than the more recent tragedy. She identifies the modern day murderer just in time to become their next victim (if not for the timely intervention of the law). Overall, a pleasant ... moreread with engaging characters.
review 2: As long as you put aside the improbability of such a tiny island having so many murders on it these are a fun series of books to read. Her way of describing the island, food and inn are very sweet. She probably needs a little more work adding depth to her characters but considering I banged out three of these books in a row I would recommend reading the series if you're looking for an enjoyable cozy series. less

Another good Gray Whale Inn mystery. The recipes at the end are an added bonus!

I felt the plot was a little thin but, as always, it helped me sleep!
