review 1: Karen MacInerney has a winning formula with the Gray Whale Inn mysteries, yet each novel is unique in its characters, story, and view of Cranberry Island. In Brush with Death, I enjoyed learning more about the artists on the island and in Bar Harbor. In MacInerney's plots, there isn't simply one murder with one perpetrator, but a range of offenses by other offenders throughout the story. I identify with a world that is not black-and-white; most of us fall short of exemplary behavior, sometimes in very hurtful ways. In fact, that messiness makes for a wealth of suspects and a complicated puzzle to solve! And it comes as no surprise that the heroine herself falls short of perfection by blundering into a life-and-death situation trying to save the next vi... morectim.
review 2: Brush with Death by Karen MacInerney is the 5th book in A Gray Whale Inn Mystery series. Cranberry Island has been inundated with several artists and following a party to welcome one of the more successful artists, a local artist and Gwen's mentor , Fernand is found dead. Natalie soon becomes involved in tracking the killer. This book follows the pattern of the previous ones and is a cozy and familiar read. The mystery is quite simple to solve but the book is still enjoyable. Bonus recipes are included and sound delicious. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment. less
