review 1: Natalie Barnes owns and runs the Grey Goose Inn, on tiny Cranberry Island. She's bringing blueberries home from dinner in her skiff when she finds a dead man. The new policeman covering the island seems more approachable than the last one, but shuts out Natalie and her fiance, who's the deputy for the island, as well as a woodcarver. Despite his objections, Natalie feels the need to investigate when it seems that police attention is focusing on local people she's sure are innocent. It does take everyone a long time to figure out what may be going on in Smuggler's Cove!
review 2: I really liked this mystery. There were a lot of extra little side plots and mysteries, and all were wrapped up nicely and happily, or at least justly by the end of the book. This ... moreis a series with a lot of nice characters, and it's also nice that now a few new characters have been introduced and look like they are going to stay on Cranberry Island for a while. I especially like Catherine and Murray--it will be interesting to see where the author takes their stories in the next few books in the series. There are possibilities galore here--how much Catherine will be able to influence Murray for the good of the island--really change him from a Scrooge-like character into a hero of sorts for the island. Or will he just remain a mistrusted and disliked businessman out solely for profit at the expense of the island's beauty. Can't wait to see what happens. less
