The Hybrid Chronicles
review 1: This book concludes the Hybrid Chronicles trilogy that started with What's Left Of Me and continued in Once We Were. The series followed the arc of so many teen dystopian trilogies: a strong first book with an interesting concept followed by a second book that drags through a ton of character development and set up for the third book which comes out swinging again, ready to bring the story to a full and satisfying conclusion. And the good news about that is this third book did indeed bring the story back to where it started and round out the series quite nicely. In Echoes of Us, Zhang picks up Eva and Addie's story after they leave Anchoit in the wake of the bombing that sent their tribe of hybrid friends scurrying. Their mission remains the same: expose the government's a... morebuses of hybrids and tear down the system of institutions where hybrids are housed, "treated" and left to wither and die. In this installment many of the same characters are involved in one way or another - the major players from books 1 and 2 are here minus most of the Anchoit revolutionaries. And there are some new players, too including a journalist who wants to use Addie and Eva to further the Hybrid cause, and some new friends Addie and Eva meet when they go back into one of the institutions. I confess this section may have been my favorite as the relationships between the girls in the institution are so fascinating and the escape tense in a way that the city-based stuff isn't. Yes the book comes to a rather tidy conclusion and there are maybe too many coincidences to feel really convincing. Nevertheless I would say this was worth reading. Particularly if you've gotten through the second book, you'll want to see how groundwork laid in Anchoit plays out in the end.
review 2: I finished this book minutes before I started writing this review. I am in a puddle of tears, not knowing how to continue my life. That's how great this book serie was.Being able to follow Eva and Addie from the very beginning to the end. Seeing how they change as people, meeting others like them and battle their way through an extraordinary life to achieve what they want. The entire trip has been amazing. Katy Zhang, you are truly a magnificent writer. For a long time I haven't felt like reading, but when I forced myself upon this book serie I didn't know that it would end up like this. My love for books has bloomed again, all thanks to The Hybrid Chronicles. I will carry on looking for books that hopefully will blow my mind away like these did. Thank you, Katy Zhang, for this stunning and wonderful story. less

more like 2.5 stars. Overall it wrapped the series up nicely but it just wasn't that exciting.
