review 1: I loved the premise of this book. Two souls born in to one body. As the child gets older, one soul becomes dominant, and the other soul just fades away. What happens when the non-dominant souls doesn't "settle"? How do these two souls work together? In this book, those that don't "settle" are called "hybrids". They are hunted down by the government, so they are forced to hide what they are. Maybe it's just me, but this book just did not hook me in. I was able to put it down in the middle of the book, and walk away without a second thought. By the time I reached the end, I really felt that the storyline was played out for me. I have no desire to go chasing down the next book in this series. I think part of my problem is that the book was focused almost solely on the recessi... moreve soul, Eva. By the time that I got to the end of the book, I was wondering where Addie had gone. Was I supposed to be so moved by the resurgence of Eva's soul that I wouldn't grieve at the loss of Addie? The last chapter was supposed to reassure us that the two souls would be able to live in harmony, but to me it seemed like an after thought.Too bad. I had high hopes for a new storyline.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book. It's up there with my favorites that I've read this year. I loved how Eva switched slowly from talking about "us" and "we" to "I" and "me". I'm a a huge fan of books that are not like anything else I've read and this book did that for me. The concept of two souls in one body and what that would look like fascinated me. Well worth the read for Young Adults, especially for Dystopian literature. Highly recommended. less
