review 1: This book was set in WWII. She tried to be historically accurate but it felt forced because while the most of the setting was accurate I didn't feel that the characters responses were appropriate to the situation. It was good overall. Creative plot line. I did appreciate how it followed the Old Testament story of Esther. There was some good character development. I do wish that she had spent more time in some of the other characters point of view. I felt like it jumped around a bit with the perspective. Overall a solid book
review 2: This was a very impressive read for it to have been Kate Breslin's first novel. The main characters are Hadassah (Stella) and Aric Von Schmidt. Hadassah follows the story of Esther ; how one Jewish woman stood for her people. Ari... morec rescued Stella from impending death as she held the slain body of six year old Anna. Under the disguise of false documentations, she resides in the home of her kommandant, Schmidt. Her bruised and battered body is nursed back to health by the housekeeper and houseboy, Joseph. Known as Stella Muller, she soon begins work as a secretary . She soon saw how the Jewish people were treated and fought for their lives. Through love and sorrow Stella never gives up. less
