The Penderwicks, by Jeanne Birdsall

Because, the landlord has sold the house that the Penderwicks usually rent for the summer they must find a new cottage to rent for the summer. So they find this cottege next to this mansion called Arundel. And a  little boy named Jeffrey. These five go on lots of adventures. They try to have fun while avoiding Jeffrey’s snotty mother, Mrs. Tifton. Only the Penderwicks would have so much fun while attending parties and plotting to save Jeffrey from going to military school. The Penderwicks have such an action packed summer that you can not help laughing and crying and smiling along with them

I loved The Penderwicks to death. It does deal with some very sad things in this book. Like hearing about Mr Penderwick, a single dad raising four girls. But you also hear about how happy and funny these girls are when they are chilling, playing, or being the sarcastic, witty people that they are. Jeanne Birdsall did a great job with that.

The little romances in this book were so cute!!!!! So Rosalind liked somebody and Skye liked somebody and these were like little crushes!!!!! They were adorable!!!!! I loved the rabbits!!!!!! So the guy who worked as the caretaker had two rabbits and they were the most adorable things in the world. I felt love for the rabbits. How am I supposed to feel love for rabbits? I guess that shows that Jeanne Birdsall is so good at what she does that I even love the minor characters.

The plot was extremely funny. I was laughing through every other chapter. That is how good this book is. When a character said something funny, I laughed from the heart. That does not normally happen for me. But it does in this book. That is why I love this book so much. I like authors who portray the issue in the book in a light and funny manner, while still going deep into the topic. That is something that Jeanne Birdsall does really well.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. It holds a special meaning in my heart and I feel happy that I have read this book. I will be starting the second book, The Penderwicks On Gardam Street as soon as I finish writing this post. I felt really calm while I was reading this book for some reason. So, I would be reading and suddenly I would have to stop and I would feel really calm. Can someone explain that to me?

I loved this book to the bottom of my heart. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice funny story and lofts of laughs. Please remember to fill out my survey, that information is on my about page. Thanks for Reading!!!! Have a Great Day!!!!! -Annalee and Buttons
