review 1: Well-written account of Frankie's perspective as a young worrier from Britain, with genes to match his compulsions and strong feelings. His friend, Sidney, is a rare bird, reminding me of Jerry Spinelli's StarGirl; not afraid to be different. The author skips seamlessly between time periods in an artistic, engaging way, rather than being stilting and confusing, as often happens with attempts at that literary device. Interesting from the perspective of an educator looking at the perspective of students with special needs. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed the English-accented reading by Stig Wemyss.
review 2: I decided to read this book because my mother said I could read it for my reading logs and that it was a good book. This book counts for the bing
... moreo board square: A book written by a New Zealander. I thought this category was good because it is important for us to read literature from our own country as well as others. My favourite quote from The 10pm Question is "She has to be a caged bird, doesn't she?. Something that's had its wings clipped. Something really pretty, but a bit sad." This quote is about the main character, Frankie Parson's mother, who never goes outside. I like this quote because it represents how Frankie's mother Francie, has been scared to go outside of her comfort zone ever since she was young, and her parents died in a car crash. It shows that although it was long ago, Francie can't recover because the trauma is holding her on to it and she can't move on for fear of something happening to her. A character in this book I thought was interesting was Sydney, the new girl at Frankie's school whom he befriends. I found her interesting because the author made her very unique and she always had a lot of interesting things happening to her and around her. She opened Frankie's mind to the fact that all girls aren't the same and you can be friends with one. Sydney is admiring because she learns how to take after her younger sisters and although she is a very "spirited" person I see that she cares about her family and friends and wants to protect them and help them. I learnt from this book that you should never let your fears stop you from doing things, and just because someone is your parent you don't have to grow up to be like them. This is important because everyone should always face their fears and never be afraid of taking risks because you always have to try at life. This also shows that you don't have to grow up like your parents, you can be who you want to be and don't let other people force you into a person you aren't. less
