review 1: Definite fluff, but enjoyable fluff. An alt-reality Britain with some steampunk flavouring, but more of an urban fantasy fare when all is said and done. I really enjoyed the story, and the world is rich and intriguing. The family dynamics and the relationships were one of the best parts of the story for me, and I found the majority of the characters (especially the protagonist) to be entirely believable and fully fleshed out. The love interest did feel like a bit of an afterthought, but I was okay with that because I appreciated that the romance was *not* the focus of the story.
review 2: God, I loved, loved, loved this book. It was so sincerely inventive and beautifully writ. I haven't finished the series (I have a peeve with retellings in sequels... sometimes
... more it's just too much and I find it maddening), but I may go onto Book 3 and 4 (when it's available). All in all, book one is deliciously spun and well worth the read.Pardon my brevity (multi-tasking). I may come back to extend this review at a later date. less

I wanted to like this book, but in the end, just couldn't deal with Xandra's personality.

Loved it; loved the ending; haven't read the sequel yet but it's waiting on my shelf.

That was way more fun than I expected.
