review 1: Like most I totally fell in love with Justin when I read the Dark Horse series. He seemed like the perfect guy for Dan and reading his story definitely didn’t change my point of view. I think it’s kind of fitting that Dan needs two people to fill the hole that Justin left in his life. I would have loved for Justin and Dan to have a full length novel instead of a short story but I would have probably run out of tissues before finishing that book. All in all a great prequel to an equally great series.
review 2: I want to start by saying thank you to Kate Sherwood for providing her readers with free short stories. In my opinion, these short stories bring her fans coming back for more.This story was of course, quite bittersweet, but reading about Justin and ab... moreout how difficult it was to win Dan over, really made me appreciate the rest of the series. I loved that this was from Justin's POV and that we finally get to meet the man who saves Dan. The beauty of this short is not in the short itself, but as I read more of the series, I was able to come back to this short and see how Justin gentled Dan and how he really knew what Dan needed. He handled Dan better than any spooked horse, and you can really appreciate that when you see how skittish Dan is later in his relationship with Evan and Jeff. If Justin hadn't met Dan first and broken through his barriers, there would be no way Jeff and Evan would have been able to tame Dan. I didn't fall in love with Justin in this short, but I did later on in the series as Dan still reaches out to the memory of his first true love to bring him strength. less
