review 1: Described on the book jacket as a psychological thriller relating to a mysterious murder and potential secret society on a college campus, this book was disappointing. While the story line did hold my attention, many events were predictable/cliche and the main character, Phoebe, was irritating. A washed-up journalist turned adjunct professor, she makes ridiculous decisions that lack logical thinking and get her into trouble: she falls in love with a psychology professor who may or may not be the murderer on campus, she frequently goes against the requests of her friend/college president, and she ignores clear warning signs that she is in danger. I continually wished the author focused more on "the Sixes" and less on the storyteller.
review 2: Love Kate White.
... moreGreat for light summer reading. Suspenseful and finished it in a couple sittings. I really liked the character depth given to Phoebe, but her need to unravel the mystery alone was unrealistic especially after numerous threats to her safety and inability to trust anyone. Any logical thinking woman would quit after the first sign of danger. But alas, it's only a book and a enjoyable one at that. less
