review 1: Sisters: one is introverted and frumpy; the other is extroverted, sexy and has all the guys wrapped around her finger. So in this French novel, the sexy sister, who married into money through her good looks and appears to have it all, gets her frumpy sister, a medieval research historian, to ghost-write a historical novel for her. The medieval historian is in dire straits with two daughters and an ex-husband who just ran off to Africa with his girlfriend to raise crocodiles for the Chinese market. The two daughters repeat the sister pattern: the older one is hot and has all the guys mooning over her and doing her bidding; the younger daughter, like her mom, is plain looking and a timid wallflower. The ghost-written novel is wildly successful and we get a bit of a role reve... morersal because the deal is that the plain, intellectual sister she will earn all the money from the book while the good-looking one takes to the airwaves to do PR for “her” novel. I’m not giving away any plot because all of this is described on the book jacket. Although translated from the French and set in France, the story could take place anywhere in the modern Western world.
review 2: Easy read with quirky characters who develop as the story progresses. Would never have selected this book off the shelves myself but because it was a book club choice I had to read it. This is a good example of how joining a book club can open up your reading choices and on this occasion I really enjoyed reading it. Also found there was lots to discuss in it. I thought the main character, Josephine, was very appealing and found myself cheering her on all the way through. Only gave it 4 stars because I wouldn't call it a gripping read but it was very well written with an easy to follow plot. After finishing the book I am inspired to read Katherine Pancol's two sequels so that in itself is worthy of 4 stars. less

Fabulous. Not as intellectual as The Elegance of the Hedgehog, but it ws satisfying and delightful.

Annoying start but once the plot takes off, it's excellent story.
