American Girls: Caroline
review 1: After the battle of Sacket’s Harbor, life seems to be returning to normal for Caroline. The war is still going on, but the British have not tried to attack them again. A letter arrives from her uncle asking for Caroline to come stay on the new farm for the summer while her aunt is away helping a sick friend. Caroline does not want to go, but knows she must help her family in their time of need. There also seems to be a thief in the woods, stealing food. Caroline sets out to solve the mystery. Caroline deals with homesickness, but she handles it well, working hard to help her uncle and cousin, Lydia. She also helps tend the milking cow and calf. Caroline finds herself learning new tasks while keeping an eye out for the thief. She learns that things are not alway... mores how they appear. This book has a good life lesson, when you think you have it bad there are others who have it worse.
review 2: Childhood memory: None ... Okay, so this isn't technically one of the American Girl books I read as a kid. But, my memories of those I did enjoy keep me interested in checking in on the historical American Girl books as AG publishes them.Revisited review: This was a great series, in a great setting. I wasn't sure what to expect, I thought the Caroline series would be boring and bland but I was pleasantly surprised. The War of 1812 time frame and key location setting really kept the stories engaging. The Christmastime story was the weakest of the series, just lacking some of the same excitement of the other stories. Though the titles (for the most part) don't follow the old AG method, the overall story arc felt familiar (in a good way). less

I thought it was fun when Caroline went to her cousin Linda's farm and helped the chores.
