review 1: The year is 1889. The place is Johnstown, Pa. The plot is the devastating flood that claimed the lives of 3000 people. Told through the characters of two newspaper reporters and two twin sisters separated by the flood only to find each other in their 103rd year. An excellent tale with great historical information and filled with local references to familiar western Pa facts. You will want to pay visit to the Johnstown Flood Museum after you turn the last page.
review 2: I loved this book. Not only was it a wonderful story about women growing up and leading extraordinary lives, but the story of a search for a sister who disappeared in the Johnstown Flood. Nina and Ben are writing a story for a Pittsburgh newspaper and Nina discovers there is a survivor t... morehat can give them a first hand account of the day. While Ben covers how the area came back and survived, Nina concentrates on Ellen's story of her sister disappearing off the mattress they were floating on. A great history lesson and how lives goes on despite circumstances. less
