review 1: Tetsu's family has been sent to a Japanese internment camp in 1942. His father is taken by the FBI because he was so involved with the Japanese community. Tetsu's family struggles to find normalcy in the camp. Then some boys start building a baseball field. Tetsu loves baseball & was a great first baseman. But one day he is mean to his sister & she gets mad & runs into the desert. She spends the night out there & ends up with valley fever. She nearly dies. Tetsu feels terrible & gives up baseball. Instead he spends his time making sure she is okay & building her a fish pond. Eventually, his dad comes to the camp. Over time, his dad encourages him to play baseball again. He does & becomes one of the best players on the team. His team even travels to other inter... morenment camps & plays them. Tetsu eventually gets to be a pitcher. At the end of the book, he and his family are looking forward to leaving the camp & finding a normal life again. The book is written in simple prose and is a quick book to read.
review 2: This story takes place during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Tetsu, his sister, Kimi, and his mom are sent to live in a Japanese internment camp in North Dakota after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The books shares just a peek into the experiences that were forced upon many people like them. It also tells the story of how the community worked together to create a baseball team and a playing field while faced with many challenges. Enjoyable story! less

Never finished the book. It wasn't about baseball it was really about a dog named Lefty.

Beautifully written and was only slow, ironically, during the baseball game parts.

I thought the book was very serious because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
