Wolves of the Beyond
review 1: In the previous book, Faolan was undoubtedly the hero of the story. In this one, Edme really steps forward as a major character. She is so unlike other MacHeaths as well as other wolves of the Beyond – cheerful and kind despite all the sorrow she suffered, and yet she is strong and brave enough to deny the rule of MacHeaths. It’s no wonder that Edme becomes my favorite character, a brave daughter of a brave mother. I also thought that the story of two more MacHeath she-wolves, Katria and Airmead, and how they found strength within themselves to break the chains of tyranny was an interesting addiction to the main plotline. We also get a much better insight into the life of the Sacred Watch. We've already known them from ‘Guardians of Ga'Hoole’ series, but there we ac... moretually see a side of them that is hidden from the other clans: how they train their new members, how they carry out their guarding duty, the friendship and companionship they share. But there’s something rotten in the lands of Beyond… And when you say ‘rotten’, it usually means ‘MacHeaths’. As you can guess, this foul clan dreams of power – and they will do anything to get it. The war between wolves and bears is about to arise, and Faolan is torn apart – a wolf brought up by a bear, he cannot even think about fighting any of them. To stop this war, two wolves set out for a quest – Faolan with his knowledge of bears and Edme with her knowledge of MacHeaths. But to do this, they have to face the most dangerous beast of the Beyond – the beast no one had faced before without losing their life or their sanity…
review 2: Wolves of the Beyond: Watch Wolf (Wolves of the Beyond Book 3) Summary: A BATTLE FOR THE BEYOND...Far from the owls of Ga'Hoole, a war is brewing. A bear cub has been snatched by a wolf - an unthinkable betrayal of the peace that has long existed between the wolves and grizzly bears of the Beyond. The bears are massing, roaring for revenge. The wolves claim to be innocent, but they must either fight back or be annihilated. For Faolan, a young wolf raised by a grizzly bear mother, the threat of war starts a terrible race. Somewhere in the honorable wolf clans hides a traitor, and Faolan must stop him and rescue the lost bear cub before it's too late. If he fails, Faolan will lose everything... and the wolves of the Beyond will be destroyed forever.MY OPINIONThis book was the best one so far in the series. There's just so much happening that it never gets boring. It begins with Faolan and Edme making the journey of Slaan Leat, a journey all gnaw wolves must make before they can truly become Wolves of the Watch at the Ring of Sacred Volcanoes. The purpose of the Slaan Leat is for gnaw wolves to return to the spot - or tummfraw - where they were left to die so that they may make peace with their history and accept that they are not like other wolves. Faolan accomplishes this, but Edme learns a horrible truth. She was not born Malcadh - or cursed - she was made a Malcadh. When she was born, the chieftain of her Clan attacked her and tore out her eye. Upon learning this, Edme renounces her Clan, refusing to join the Watch as a representative of the MacHeath Clan. Instead, she joins them as a free runner. However, this truth causes problems between Edme and another wolf in the Watch who does not like her. Angered, the MacHeath Clan begin to plot their revenge and learn something they can use - on the way back to the Watch, Edme played with a bear cub. There is a long standing rule that wolves are not to touch bear cubs, lest that wolf be killed. Edme was lucky, the mother bear was asleep, and when Faolan saw her playing with the cubs, he quickly nudged her away from them. But now the MacHeath's have a idea - they kidnap (or cubnap, actually) Toby, the young bear cub and toss him in the Pit, an awful place in MacHeath territory where a wolf suffering from the Foaming Mouth disease lives. For some reason, this wolf has not died from the disease. As Faolan and Edme set out to rescue the cub, the bears begin to gather, planning to kill the wolves in order to find the cub. Will Faolan and Edme save the cub in time? Or will the foaming mouth disease have already damaged the poor little cub?Like I said before, this book was very good. I like Edme, she's an awesome character, and little bear cub Toby was very funny when he was picking on the sick wolf. We also meet new characters this book, and unfortunately, say goodbye to two characters, one of which we've known since book one. It's very sad at the end, but still a good book.Quote: "But Faolan, that is a lovely name. Gift, yes, That's a perfect name, for I felt blessed when you were born. You were not cursed in the least. You were my gift and they took my gift away..." less

After I read this book, i think this was a pretty good book, this book was more interesting than I hoped it would be. The most interesting parts were when Faolan entered the sacred ring of volcanoes and learned how to do tricks, along with Edme, It was interesting how detailed the author, Katheryn Lasky described how they flew into the air and landed. Felt like I was there, doing the exact same thing. I'm looking forward to the rest of the books!
