review 1: This is the first book I've read by this author. It was written a few years ago and there is at least one more in the series. The plot was intriguing in that the new owner of an old house finds small notes on pieces of paper hidden around the house written by children who disappeared 30 years before along with their mother. It was thoroughly enjoyable if you disregard any semblance of reality (30 years and she spots them here and there? the woman living there never spied a single one?) I let go of reality (the whole book has kind of a fairy tale feel) and found it charming and engaging. There were very interesting characters as long as you don't think too hard (a woman who makes her living as a realtor in a town of less than 500? Do they constantly swap houses?). No... moret for the hardcore mystery fan.
review 2: A 30 year old mystery in a small town is enough to draw you in and the charming and edgy story that follows will keep you reading. I enjoyed the pace and reasoning of the storyline. I liked the introduction of the "scraps of paper" as the intro into the mystery that the heroine finally unravels. You are taken on a trip thru small town America where a mystery is uncovered and there are several suspects that clues start to point to. The heroine is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery despite the fact that someone seems determined to stop her. If you are the blood and gore type of mystery fan you will be disappointed but if you love a good mystery with surprises and twists along the way you will enjoy this read. less
