review 1: I expected something in Sophie's character will change (that she will realize she is being used and she will try to make a good of herself). But the book is solely describing how lucky she gets to find herself in a new life (and also because she is such a nice plain girl). At some points though Sophie acts surprisingly good that the reader enjoys it (like her conversation with Luke in the dark house when she stands out for herself). The ending was predictable though!
review 2: See - this is how it's done. After being disappointed by Sophia Kinsolver's latest I was delighted with this one. Classic chick lit, classic romance line, classic offbeat yet sincere and sweet heroine - yes, she is feisty - and Katie makes it work where Sophie didn't. I enjoyed myself ... morethoroughly while reading this book and highly recommend this author to anybody who loves this type of reading but prefers well rounded interesting characters and a plausible plot line. less
