review 1: I have issues with this book, and yet I also really love it. The pattern sizes run small to medium, ignoring anyone over a US size 12. The patterns use mainly quilting cotton, but don't really discuss how apparel fabrics would be better for long term care and handling. (You would have to iron every garment before wearing!) BUT the patterns build off one another, from simple to complex, and the variations are laid out for beginners. One skirt pattern is actually made into four with pocket and ruffle variations. So it is a decent book for beginner sewing enthusiasts, if you can look beyond the ruffles (so many ruffles!) and sew clothes for a small person.
review 2: Nonfiction; Sewing/craft. The library copy of this I checked out did not come with the pattern piec
... morees, which makes the book fairly useless, but I could see myself using the basic skirt pattern (with pockets!) otherwise, and the jackets were cute too. I didn't care for the top on the tunics/dresses, and these were all the same, so I probably wouldn't make that. Still, there are some good how-to basics at the beginning that a novice (or even fairly intermediate) sewist would find helpful. less

Cute ideas with patterns included. Not just skirts, but jackets and dresses too.

The overall designs in this book just aren't my style. Not worth reading IMO.

Cute skirts, a lot of ruffles, and too much ironing.
