review 1: 3.5 This is a super short, very cute story that made me want more. Philip is a best-selling romance writer who is very neurotic. He is allowing a fan named Robin, who is more like a friend he’s been emailing, over to his loft for an interview. Imagine the shock when Robin turns out to be a young, gorgeous man. Oh no! This is more the beginning of their story but it’s sweet and I’d love to see more of these two, get the backstory and the future!
review 2: I saw the introductory paragraph to this new short story (about 3500 words) on the author's blog and instantly knew that I wanted to read it. As I've made clear before, I have a fetish for insecure main characters who underestimate their value and the wonderful (and hot!) guys who snap them up, and th
... moreis story satisfied that in spades. At the start of the story we meet Philip, a successful but reclusive author of het romances who is gay and has never seen a woman naked and who, despite having had a few gay relationships, has never been in love. Philip has been corresponding on-line with Robin, who gets him like no other fan ever has, so when the much younger Robin asks to interview Philip for a school paper, Philip agrees. He figures he'll be able to handle the interview because he's not attracted to women, but when Robin shows up on his doorstep, Philip realizes that his assumption about Robin's gender was completely wrong. I really like the set-up, and while the rest of the story is somewhat predictable, I nevertheless enjoyed the dynamic between the two characters and I cheered for Robin to bring Philip out of his shell. Because this is a short story we don't get the entire romance - this is a meet-cute with a HFN ending - but it was a quick, fun read and exactly what I needed in the midst of a day spent on far less enjoyable matters. I'm satisfied if this is the end of the road for these two, but I would definitely read a follow up (hint, hint to Ms. Morgan!). less
