review 1: Beautiful story of two men who are older in life than a lot of other m/m romance books, they are also just your average run of the mill guys. I enjoyed the romantic scenes but it was seriously lacking any sex scenes, and that would have made this book darn near perfect. I don't mind implied behind the scenes sex, but not when it takes over 95% of the book. That being said, the characters were exceptionally written and I loved the connection between them. I really loved the use of the blue gifts. I truly wanted more of the story.
review 2: 3.5/5 starsLuke Jordan is a forty something divorcee with a grown son who has no idea how to be gay. He always knew he was gay, but after knocking up his best friend when they were young and dumb, he did the right thing and ma
... morerried her. The divorce was amicable, but all of their friends gravitated to his ex so now Luke has to learn how to socialize when he was never that good to begin with. His son, Zach, signs him up with a gay social group Rainbow Blues as an early Christmas gift. Luke is livid at first, but finally agrees to attend one event at least. He meets a nice guy right off the bat and they become great friends. It's when Luke and his new pal attend a play that he meets the man he's meant to be with.Jimmy Alexander is a stage actor that wants to make it big and star in a Hollywood movie. Where Luke is well toned from years of running his construction company, brooding and handsome... Jimmy is tall, lithe and more beautiful than rugged. They catch each other's eye straight away and end up doing some pretty heavy petting in the dressing rooms not five minutes later. They go from strangers to lovers in one evening, and since neither one is interested in a one night stand, a relationship is the only option. It's not all smooth sailing though. These two do everything slightly backwards and at light speed. Luke's sons best friend confesses to crushing on Luke, Luke and Jimmy don't always have the best communication skills, Zach is not exactly pleased when he learns his dad and his new boyfriend are buying a house together. And then Jimmy finally gets the one thing he's always dreamed of, a movie role reprising his stage role for film. But Hollywood is not all it's cracked up to be. These two will have to stop, slow down, talk and then listen to each other if they are going to stand a chance of having a lasting long term relationship. Overall I enjoyed this story, but there were a few hiccups along the way. Angst in adult novels drives me crazy, and I thought that after there was one miscommunication they would have learned, but no, they didn't. And the sexual aspect of the story was quite detailed with lots of heavy petting, kissing and foreplay but never any details of the act itself. I wanted more insight in that area. That being said, I loved that this was a story about two older gay men finding love later on in life. The writing was engaging and the storyline kept me intrigued throughout. It was definitely an insta love type story, but the romance between the characters was so endearing. Especially the little gifts and the 'I saw something blue and thought of you' angle. It was almost like these two men had to live the lives they did and travel a specific road to find each other and once they did, there was no time to waste. If you are a fan of love stories with older characters or a hopeless romantic, then this is definitely a book for you. less
