Poi la vita gli fa incontrare un ragazzo, Davy, e tutto cambia. Prima crede di vederlo solo un amico, ma dopo quella loro complicità lo spinge a immaginarselo di notte e desiderarlo quando fa l’amore da se’. Improvvisamente tutto il suo mondo cambia e Kurt deve affrontare un coming out con se stesso, con gli amici e i parenti perché, solo chiarendosi, potrà non perdere quello che è di fatto il suo primo vero amore. Un romanzo che si ... morelegge in un giorno per la sua dinamicità, la sua scrittura lineare e la sua bellezza. La storia prende il lettore sin da subito e non lo lascia se non quando c’è l’happy ending che la sua autrice, KC Burn, ama regalare ai suoi personaggi e a tutti coloro che entrano in possesso della loro storia. Coming out, confronto con gli amici, lutto e la nascita del primo vero amore sono gli ingredienti che rendono questo romanzo un piccolo gioiello in grado di creare nella mente le immagini dei personaggi narrati come se fossero persone in carne e ossa che fanno parte delle nostre amicizie. Consigliato!!!
review 2: 4.5I read this book a while ago but never reviewed it. It's one of the first GFY trope books that I ever read. Looking at it again I'm reminded of why it's a favourite of mine. Kurt and Ben are homicide cops. There's a work related explosion where Ben is killed and Kurt is severely injured. At Ben's funeral Kurt realizes that his partner was keeping secrets when he meets Davy, the man Ben lived with for ten years. Kurt takes it upon himself to help ease Davy through his grief and I think it's this sweet friendship that develops between the two men that endears this story to me so much. Ben spent much of the last ten years isolating Davy from his friends because he was deeply in the closet, so much of the time that Kurt and Davy spend together is Kurt delicately trying to help pull Davy out of the closet he was shoved into by Ben. Parallel to this is Kurt coming to realization that he's attracted to Davy and coming to terms with his romantic feelings for the man he's come to call his friend. There are some great secondary characters here, both Kurt's family and new partner as well as Davy's friends. I loved the bumps in the road that the men navigate along the way and that's what takes it up a level for me because things don't work out easily. The payoff is worth the struggle and all that much sweeter for it. less
