review 1: This is a bit of a kid sibling to the Rhizome Collective's Toolbox for Sustainable City Living. While the authors provide a lot of very useful, relatable and fun ideas and tips, they very clearly don't have firsthand experience with all of them. One of the strengths of the Rhizome book is that they had tried these things--successfully or not--and could speak very authoritatively. That said, the Urban Homestead provides a great framework for scalable changes to modern city living that can be done as you are able and have the time/energy. It's a fun read with lots of good info. There are a stunning number of typos, but all in all a worthwhile book for those interested in a variety of DIY projects that can be done no matter where and how you live.
review 2: Lots of
... more really great ideas for arranging your home and garden so that you can be more self-sufficient. Many of them look like they would work. Some are a bit too out there for me. I would definitely recommend this book for any home gardener or anyone looking for ways to save costs on running their home and reducing the amount of manufactured stuff they buy.The one thing that really bugged me about this book was that it didn't have page numbers. The table of contents referred to page numbers but the actual pages didn't have numbers on them. So it was very difficult to find particular ideas that I was interested in refer back to them later on. I assume this was some sort of glitch in the self-publishing process but it still really reduced the usefulness of the book. I am looking forward to reading their second book. less

Lots of practical projects, not all of them doable for me currently, but hey, maybe some day...
