review 1: I gave this book only one star because I found the plot line to be a too thin and predictable. The characters were quite trite. Dr. Mitchell was a too obtuse (but gains skill quite conveniently right in time!), while GG was way over the top. It felt at times, especially near the end when everything miraculously comes together perfectly, like I was watching a bad soap opera or tv crime drama. While I did find some of the medical information interesting, it wasn't enough to salvage the story for me.
review 2: Wow. This book was disappointing on so many levels. The premise was interesting - someone is killing hospital patients as part of a "game" with a senior resident surgeon. But unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. This is Parsons's first b
... moreook, and it was hopelessly amateurish. On the one hand, he goes into much too much detail with the medical aspects, often explaining things that the average reader or TV/movie medical show follower would already know. On the other hand, his plot is convoluted, his characters are lifeless, and the dialogue is trite and predictable. The "hero", Steve Mitchell, is so flawed, so arrogant, and so uncaring that it's impossible to like him or to feel sorry for him. By the middle of the book, the plot has morphed from medical thriller to James Bond, complete with the latest spy technology. I certainly hope Kelly Parsons is a better surgeon than he is a writer. less

3.5 stars. This is a page turner, but I was surprised how emotionally disconnected I was from it
