review 1: This is one of the most intriguing books I have ever read. To say that its simply science fiction is to not accurately describe it. It’s more a mix of science fiction, mystery and thriller with religious aspects rolled into one. The concepts MacLeod presents are nothing short of sensational and are totally believable. Faith-based wars have always existed and will continue into the future. He presents a time when religion and government have been separated and religious groups are run by fanatics and atheists are targeting them. Catholic priests are being murdered and Adam Ferguson’s investigation uncovers more questions than answers. A great take on a very possible future with great characters and a compelling plot.
review 2: A fascinating approach to an un
... moreusual future. In a world where the religious are in the minority and where religion itself has no legal status, a bishop is killed. MacLeod does an excellent job of balancing his characters and exploring a very real issues in a uniquely-designed world. He wrestles with issues of religion and artificial intelligence without ever losing sight of the fact that he is writing a police procedural mystery. Gripping up to the very end. less
