review 1: The title was the best thing about the book. I like the title of her books they are puns, and I thought they would be similar to a Katie MacAlister vibe. Nope there is no sense of irony or even self awareness in these books at all. I wish Santa had dropped off a thesaurus at Kerrelyn's house on Christmas day because by the third chapter I was sick of the word vampire, and more importantly it's more diminutive Vamp. That's right every third paragraph it's Vamp something or other. The lead character spoke Italian and Bohemian I'm sure there are words for the undead or bloodsuckers in either language that she could used. I have a real problem with the mirror mythology, it comes from the belief that mirrors show a person's soul. A vampire is a soulless being therefore it can't... more see itself in a mirror or enter holy places. But Spark's sanguisuge can enter holy places, but still can't see themselves in a mirror. The whole series is just lackadaisical and lackluster.
review 2: This book is by far my favorite of the first six books in the Love at Stake series. Lara is smart, sassy, and a bit more accepting of her feelings than most of the female main characters in paranormal romances. Her banter with Jack is sexy and funny, and Lara definitely has the coolest best friend. Previous characters from earlier books in the series return and paired with the new characters, the stories just keep getting better and better. less
